2009
On May 4, the fifth annual Celebration of Teaching Banquet was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center. Connaitre Miller, Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Howard University in Washington DC was the keynote speaker. She teaches and directs the award winning vocal jazz ensemble “Afro Blue”. She is a 1979 Junction City High School graduate and was a vocal music instructor at JCHS before moving to the university level. A talented musician herself, she has performed in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. She conducts lectures and workshops throughout the United States and abroad.
Approximately 500 teachers, administrators and other guests were in attendance. Dr. Carol Brooks, wife of Major General Vincent Brooks, gave the greetings from Ft. Riley. This celebration was made possible through the donations of many gracious Table Sponsors and Contributors.

On May 5, the 4th Annual Celebration of Teaching Banquet was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center. Dr. David Flowers gave the keynote address. Dr. Flowers was a track standout at JCHS and graduated from there in 1969. He is a former Associate Superintendent for USD 475 and is currently the Superintendent of Schools for USD 308 in Hutchinson. Dr. Mary Devin, his former boss, introduced him.

On May 7, the 3rd Annual Celebration of Teaching Banquet was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center. District Magistrate Judge Tom B. Webb was the guest speaker. Judge Webb attended schools in USD 475 through 1970. Along with being a judge, Mr. Webb travels the country sharing his life story, not commonly experienced by individuals who live in this part of the world.

On May 8, 2006 the 2nd Annual Celebration of Teaching Banquet was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center. Kansas State University Head Football Coach & 1992 JCHS graduate, Ron Prince was the guest speaker.

On May 5, 2005 the Geary Community Schools Foundation sponsored a Celebration of Teaching Banquet honoring the teachers of USD 475. Four hundred seventy teachers, administrators, Board of Education Members and special guests gathered at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center for dinner. They heard comments fromLt. Governor John Moore, Major General Dennis Hardy Commanding General of Fort Riley, and an Aide to Senator Pat Roberts. Dr. Andy Tomkins, Kansas Commissioner of Education, was the key note speaker.
