This past August John Rucker and Gary Devin, JCHS Alumni, established a scholarship in honor of Charlie Fiffe, long-time teacher and coach at JCHS.   He was the favorite of many students.  Charlie passed away in late September.  His family was so gracious to designate  the Charlie Fiffe Scholarship as one of his memorials.  Through the kindness of John Rucker, Gary Devin and the family of Charlie Fiffe several JCHS Seniors will benefit through their contributions. 

The Geary Community Schools Foundation  Board of Trustees urges you to consider the Foundation for a gift for a loved one for birthday’s, anniversaries or whatever the occasion might be.  Long term planning might include the Foundation as a designated memorial in the event of a death, or you can name the Foundation as a beneficiary on an insurance policy.  And of course, you can include us in your will or trust.  Education is a gift that keeps on giving.  Remember the Geary Community Schools Foundation.

In September the Foundation Board of Trustees met and selected the grant recepients for the coming school year.  Grandview Elementary, Lincoln Elementary and the JCHS Environmental Club were the recepients.  We received many fine applications, unfortunately we were not able to fund all of them. 

In October USD 475 School District received word that it received 109 Standard of Excellence Awards on the Kansas Assessments.  When the assessments started,  the Foundation gave a banner to each school for the Standard of Excellence Awards they received.  This year will be no exception.  The Foundation will present each school with a ribbon for the Standard of Excellence Awards they earned on the 2008 tests.

The semi-annual chili feed was held on October 31 in conjunction with the Junction City-Manhattan football game.  Over 200 people were served.  Thank you to all those who attended.
